Everytime I try to render it only creates a grey screen. The only time it seems to work right is every once in a while when objects in the view are kind of already rendered on screen, not sure how or why it does this or how to get it to show rendered in the 3D view at any angle. It seems to show up this way while messing with the edit button. When I first click on an object in a view then click on edit that object shows up rendered already but once I finish the edit it goes back to just an outlined object. In another completely different project I had similar issues when creating a new object it would make all other rendered materials in the view go back to just an outline and then I'd have to mess with it and out of no where it would all pop back to be rendered. I am totally lost on this issue... sooo frustrating!!! Any ideas to actually be able to render normally? It seems to do it on any new project I start.

Hi, Are the objects you are trying to render have a render appearance applied to it? Sometimes if you try to render, the color of the object will only show if you didn't do this. Go to options, edit, edit, click on the material and edit, and click on the render appearance tab.

I figured it out, I had to set the discipline and sub-discipline to arch and lighting. After that it works fine. Not sure if there is a difference but I'm using Revit MEP 2009.
