I edited the standard column family to add solid sweeps at the top and bottom. Now when I load this new family into the project, the extrusion (column itself) is not visible in any of the views but the sweeps are. Visibility is turned on for the extrusion in all views. ..?

did you attached the sweeps to the top reference plane correctly? is the column too short, but the sweep is up in the air? Check the elevations to see what it looks like. Check all the heights, make sure to flex the family in the editor before you load it into the project.
