Can someone explain to me what the purpose of 3d levels are for.  I'm finding that I only use 2d level so that i can move them around in my building sections...What is the purpose of using a 3d level?

I assume you mean the 2D/3D level extent option?

Look in your H E L P using extent as your search and you will see several topics that show you how and why you can use this option.

I understand the extents of the datums but I guess what I am asking is why I should use the 3D level instead of a 2D?  It seems to me that 3D levels just fight amongst different section views were 2D levels seem to just work the way I want them too.  I hope this clears up my confustion on the question.  I can change the lengths of a 2D level and not worry about them moving in different views like a 3D level.

BTW I’m in Revit 2009I typed in your "extent" as my search parameter the FIRST TIME and it led me to 'exposure' as the first thing so I looked for it myself and found some of what I wanted to know under '2d / 3d datum extents'.  which is why I replied saying I already know what those are for, it does NOT say why you should use or not use it...so get your facts straight before you claim to lead anybody anywhere but an mirage.  I asked for help or a quick explanation, not to get badgered by a site moderator.

Both 2008 & 2009 bring up a lot of topics using extent as you can see attached below ...

NOW READ "Example of Datum Visibility in Project Views" and it will explain part of why you use 3D datum extents...  There is so much moe here and it is better explained than what can be posted.

YOU WANTED A QUICK ANSWER ? - NO - I SAY YOU DIDN'T WANT TO LOOK!

We try very hard to give good clear answers here but we get tired of when you get smart and don't want to take advice.
