Ok, I've ran  quite a few renderings in Revit and never has it taken over 7 days to complete!

Take a look at the screen shot.  Why did it take so long?  It's at 72 DPI.  Also I have Revit 64 Bit, Vista 64, 4 GB of RAM??  It's a fast computer?  Any ideas why this happened?

Thanks,

Lorne

Please provide more detailed specs of your computer, this appears to me to be a hardware issue. You have the correct OS and Revit 64 but your machine specs may not be qualified for this 64 bit combo.

What specific specs are you looking for?

I attached a shot of my system for you.

Thanks,

Lorne

well that is a good processor for rendering, might I suggest upgrading to at minimum 8 gb of ram (go 24 if you have the cash)

You have a decent amount of glossy materials and alot of interior and exterior light combination. I dont think any of that is enough to make that render take nearly that long. Have you tried any other machines to see if you have the same issue?

No I haven't tried other machines.  I have one of the best in the office.  One other that's better but it doesn't have Revit on it.  There's one equivalent to mine, I'll try it on that one.

How do I find out how much RAM I can upgrade to?

Thanks for the help,

Lorne

With Vista 64bit you can run unlimited memory I believe, I once worked on a machine that could hold 128 gigs. There are limitations to motherboards though, you would have to find out the maximum the motherboard can handle.

My suggestion if you render a lot is to consider Max Design, I use it and am able to render a scene like that on a similar slighty better workstation in about 20 minutes. It takes a little time to learn but should be extremely beneficial in the long run.

on a side note, where in Denver are you? I am a Denver native and lived all over Colorado for 28 years (mainly northglenn, westminster). I know live in the ghost town formly known as Las Vegas, Nevada.

Look at you ceiling texture....  that would account for a lot of your problem as well as all those reflective surfaces.

Hey, small world.  Yea I live right by Washington Park.  Denver is a great city.  I love it.  The fact that it snowed almost 2 feet friday and saturday and now today it's 65-70 degrees and there's no snow anywhere.  I love Colorado!  Our office is location just South of Capitol Hill.As for the rendering, I'll have to take a look at that program.  But we don't render too much.  I will look into it though, thanks for the suggestion.  I don't know why this took 7 days, i've used this ceiling texture before.  Probably cuz of the daylight wash and the chrome stuff.  Althougth I am dumbing the chrome down in Photoshop.  That is basically like a mirror.  No me gusta.  But I ain't rerendering it!

Thanks for the help,

Lorne

Very nice, I use to live off Florida and Emerson in the Sushi Den area. I loved living there! I miss my home town a lot, if the economy gets any worse here I may be job hunting in Denver again. Although coming from the oven back to the freezer may be too difficult!

If you don't render a ton I wouldnt bother with Max at all, its a pretty pricey program and Revit+Photoshop can usually do the trick. But yeah like WWHub said, the glossy reflections slow things down as well as using daylight portals. If I render in Revit I tend to stay away from artificial and sunlight interior renders. I have had some pretty good luck in the past with just artificial light if memory serves correctly.

There could be a few other factors in your slow rendering.  If you have a lot of lights in your model try createing light groups and turn off all the lights that are not in your rendering.  Also, you can use the section crop to crop out most of your model except for what is in your rendering.  I use both methods and it speeds my rendering time up significantly.
