Some of my rafter tails automatically join nicely.  But most of the time, the ends of the rafters do not join properly.  I've aligned the sides of the tails in plan view to make sure they are directly on top of each other.  Then, I've tried to Join the Geometry and, for the heck of it, the Beam Join command.  They are also the same size and family.  I know I could just copy the sides that are correct, but I'd rather figure out how to join them.

I've attached an image to show what I'm talking about.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

No, sorry those are two exposed rafter tails, not a roof fascia.  The roof fascia tool does somewhat fix my problem, but the other end of the rafters is more decorative.

Also worth mentioning, if I take the two rafters of the problem conditions and make a copy, the copy turns into the "desired effect" on both sides of the rafters.  I just wish I knew how or why it doesn't automatically join them.
