Is there a way to create an array that will adjust with the lenth parameters in a family. I've been trying to create parametric families that have evenly spaced elements but cannot find a way to lock the array to a reference plane or dimension.

Yes that is possible. You need to make sure that you have a length parameter that changes to over all length of the object. Then when you are creating your array make it so that it fits the size you are currently working with. so if your making a table that's 6 feet long you probably want to add 3 chairs on the sides of it. Once the array is done click on the line that same way you do with the dimensions and make it a label. and in the formula field add this ArrayNum = Length( This being the name of the original parameter)/Spacing( how many per length) This can get confusing and it will take a little trail and error to figure it out. Try finding a family that has a simular parameter in it to see how it behaves.
