I was just wondering,

We are experimenting with Revit worksets and have found that if you exit a project and dont relinguish the project, anyone else in the project can not save.  Not sure on the exacts of this, but its something like that.

Anyway, if for some reason someone does not relinguish a project and goes on vacation or to a meeting, how long will it take to gain access to the project again or what is the proceedure to regain access again?

 Just wondering,

First, your office needs to develope and demand good REVIT habits.  We ask everyone to follow these rules:

  1. If you are just going to open a project to look around or copy something, always open it detached from cetntral.
  2. If you are working on a project, always work in a local file only.
  3. If you have opened your local file for any reason, before closing, always save to central (relinquish all mine) and then save locally.  (NOTE:  We ask team users to use a specified view for central saves)
  4. If you are going to lunch, to a meeting or will be away from your desk for more than 15 minutes, do a save to central with relinquish.

That being said - you will still have someone that locks something up.  To get past this:

  1. Close all Revit projects or start Revit.
  2. Under settings/options, change the user name to the offending user name.
  3. Open the central file (NOT A LOCAL).
  4. Save to central- relinquish all mine and then close the project
  5. Now go back to the options menu and change your user name back.
  6. MAKE SURE THAT THE OFFENDING USER KNOWS YOU HAVE DONE THIS.  Any work he had done without saving is now AT RISK.
Everything now should be ok.
