I am hoping there is some way to create an underlay that is not selectable. I have read alot of other posts and everyone seems to be saying to just pin the layer that is being "underlaid". However, this just solves the problem of accidently moving the "underlaid" walls, but you can still delete them. Any ideas?

Create a separate work set for it. What is on the underlay? is it just showing whats on the level below? and when you pin an object it will pop up with a dialog box if you try to delete it.

Selection of entities in Revit is always a problem for new users. Learn to pay attention to your filter and be careful with crossings. In addition, worksets can help.
