I would like to make a drafting line non-printable, but still be able to see it on screen as part of construction lines. Reference planes wiil not work for what I am doing. Any help would be great.

I don't know if white lines will work. I need to use it as a reference line. I have a curved house and my drafting line is marking the arc of that curve at the midpoint. I use this line as reference as I build the rest of the house. Reference planes obviously will not curve, and I don't want to have to turn off the visibility of that line everytime I plot. What would be great is if there is a toggle or property that I can set this reference line to be a non-printable.

Have you tried using a grid line? They will curve and since you can align and lock elements to them they can be very useful even in residential construction. While I don't do residential at work, I dabble in it at home with Revit and I use grid lines to define the exterior boundries of the house and align and lock my walls to them. Rather than having to turn them off each time you plot, you could have one view with the grids on and anothr to plot with them off. The view with the grids on becomes your "working view" HTH Tom
