I made a verticle opening in my roof while in the roofing plan view and got the results I wanted to wipe out a portion of the roof that wasn't going to actually show. In my elevation view the "verticle opening" had no impact on the view representation. Am I thinking correct that the verticale opening made in one view should impact all the views that show the same area of the roof?

Yes. It should. You must have something else going on, like maybe a duplicate roof that's turned off in the plan view???
