I have downloaded a lighting fixture family from somewhere on the web. It was built with a type catalog, rather than with a drop-down type selector list, and there is no "Add Parameter" button in the catalog-based family as there is in a drop-down-type-list family. Is there any way I can add a parameter to a family with a type catalog if I'm not the one who created that family to begin with?

The type catalog is just a .txt file that is the same name and in the same directory as the family. If you open the .txt file you can see how it is set up and add to it. You can always add new types in the family it self with out the type catalog. If you open the family and create the types you want when you reload the family all the types you created will be there.

Thanks for your reply. Problem is that when I downloaded the family, I only got an .rfa file; there was no .txt file with it (which is odd because I can access all the types in the family). Is there some other way of getting at the .txt file?

I've made a couple of screen grabs so you can see what I am seeing. When I select the family name in the browser and click Family Types, I can add "My Parameter" using the Add Parameter button visible in the Family Types dialog box. But when I select an individual type of that family, "My Parameter" does not show up in the list of parameters in the Type Properties dialog box, and there is no Add Parameter button here.

Any thoughts? Thanks again.
