Hi, I work at small engineering firm that specializes in designing covered bridges. I have just received the trial version or Revit and am wondering if I can use it to make 3-D models of our bridges. The 2D views are already designed in AutoCAD. All the tutorials I have looked at only deal with creating buildings. Can anyone give me some pointers on if this program will be useful in my situation, as well as where i can find some tips or examples? Thanks.

Revit is designed as a parametric modeling program for buildings. That said, since the upper part of a covered bridge is building like you may find Revit will work. The underside of the bridge may need in-place or custom families depending on how accurate you want the model to be. If you are looking to Revit to model as a "sales tool" then it just might work. Doing the entire project in Revit including documentation might also be possible but a bit more tricky. I would give it a try using your 30 day trial and see how it works. My tips for this would be to do the tutorials to get somewhat famiar with the software, then start your test project. Remember that you can link in the AutoCAD files to use as an underlay in plans, sections and elevations. If you have topo in AutoCAD you can create Revit topo from it. This forum and others are there if you need them. HTH Tom Post edited on 2005-06-16 09:36:29

Most of all get familiar with family creation on the various tools for modelling in here: Sweep, Blend, Extrusion, Revolve in Voids and Solids.
