Anybody with any ideas as to how to get the clapboard finish to continue across the rafters of the gable end framing at the wall plane?

JSied,

looks like your rafter is in front of (or in line with) wall. If you hide in view, the clapboard should continueaccross and to the roof if you attached the wall to the roof. But i'm wondering why the rafter is below the roof.

Join wall to roof.

Select wall and selected edit wall profile off tool bar.

Add same material to rafters??

Not sure any of this will help as I am unsure why the rafters are showing.

The rafters show below the roof because-

The main roof is 2X10 framing the overhangs are 2x6.  The walls then frame up to the underside of the 2x10 roofs.  this is the way things are usually built (here at least).

The walls ARE joined to the roof, the 2x10 roof.  Hiding in view won't work because the 2X10 roof is THE roof.

If I add the same material to the rafters is it global or in view only?

Ok but in reality the clapboard or at least a bit of clapboard and a flashing will close the distance between top of framing and underside of 2x6. I mean that in reality the clapboard would be fixed lapped over the edge of the framing and fixed onto the 2x10 blocking so model it that way. I.E finish the 2x10 part of the roof framing inside the cladding and the join should rise to meet the 2x6. I should come out looking the same as when you join a two storey wall and a floor.

I am a big fan of buidling it as it is built in reality where possible. Overriding things while a constant necessity just causes problems so if you have to overide globally and manage the probs this throws up.

You are correct.

I modified the wall type so that my sheathing clapboard layer is outside of the core face and re-drew my floor so that it only comes to the exterior core line.
