REVIT 9.1

Hi!

My firm is collaborating with another firm that uses Vectorworks (3D).  I haven't used that program for YEARS and am an AVID REVIT worshipper (years yers of using).

They will consider switching over, but they do not understand the power of Revit and I don't understand what vectorworks does anymore.  Anyone have any experience with both (current versions) that can help me convince them and explain the major advantages.  They seem to think Vectorworks does what Revit does, but I do not see how that is possible???

PLUS

I am also working with a modular housing company that needs a fast translation from my Revit drawings (mostly housing with 4-200 units).  These are WOOD framed standard construction prefab.  I've read the Autodesk university "Modeling Wood Structures" paper and peoples posts on "faking" a wall (using railings etc) but the work arounds will not give me material counts and calcs etc...

I'd like to stay with one program as much as possible but do not think building all the wood framing in Revit is very efficient?  Anybody have any ideas and or experience with this dilemma?

PLEASE ADVISE and you will have a wonderful life!

 THANKS!!

Taeko

I don't know anything about Vector Works... As far as the wood frame construction I would use the Beam System tool and build the top and bottom plates into the wall. You can then get all the material takeoff.. However, I have a lot of residential experiance and find little use in diagraming walls this way. Let me know if you need more detail or need more help.

In general I would never need to draw the framing "shop drawings" since I do large residential projects, but this is particular to the fabrication / pre-fab world that needs quick translation.

Any other ideas out there??

THanks

tt
