I'm working on a ecological learning center for a school project and i want to make two domes conected together. We have Revit Building 8 at our school. but i have revit 2009 at home. My question is: Whats the easiest way to design the dome? I tried several methods reading simalar threads but i came out with nothing solid (no walls) just a mass. If anyone could guide me through step by step that would be great. I've never really done anything complecated on Revit so far so I'm new at this.

Yes__

Create an In-Place Family >> *Walls (category) >> Name

You are going to need to use the Revolve form... so set up crossing "Reference Planes" where the intersection is the center of the dome.

(Name the Reference Planes @ RP properties)

IN AN ELEVATION VIEW:: Solid Form >> Solid Revolve >> Select a Named 'Reference Plane' >> Draw your 'Axis' >> Draw a quarter circle on one side of axis  >> Offset the Lines on the Interior to provide a Wall Thickness >> Make sure  the Lines are in a closed  loop >> Finish

Also, I made a dome in Viz and imported it as a wall. the structure is there but revit is not treating it as a wall. If its easier to import it from Viz could you help me with the steps to do it that way.

I might consider using the dome mass that comes w/ Revit for this.

Take a look in the help file for mass and how to apply walls to a mass. Might also give you some insight as to how you can import 3d geometry.

It's very easy to do.

There is a dome mass in the default imperial library that I would use. You might want to open it however, and change it to fit your needs, modify the sketch to match what you need.

Load it into your project and apply walls to the face of it.

This will save your file the impact of size/performance that inplace families can have...plus you don't need to add unnecessary ref. planes to you project.

Ok so I have the domes down. They are just plain walls and ovibously thats not what i want. I want to try to a get a Curtain Grid in the shape of a GeoDome over the walls. Anyone know how to do this?

I have a picture of what i have so far.

You forgot the images but if you create the domes by Moddeling>Create>Mass family OR by Massing>Create a Mass and create the objects then when you finish the sketch if you go to massing you have "Create Wall by Face, Roof By Face, Floors and Curtain System", did you see that??? use The H E L P Menu....
