Hi, we're trying to create a profile on an ellipse path. We have tried the "blend sweep" command and have not been successful in accomplishing the shape we want. Attached is the image of the profile and of the path. The problem we see is that as soon as the ellipse gets smaller, the sweep doesn't work. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, We're using Revit 09.

If at any point along the path the profile can not be made with overlapping itself, the sweep will not work. For instance, if you have a 1" diameter profile centered on the path, the smallest radius the path can turn will be 1/2 the diameter of the profile ... or in this case 1/2". Your drawing does not tell us were the profile is in relation to the path vertically or horizontally. If the right end of this profile is on the path, it will work but if it is centered, it may not because the radius of your turn may be more than 1/2 the width of this profile.

Yes__ How did you draw the profile, i.e.___what line types did you use (line, arc passing through three points, ellipse, etc...)??

Here is a better image of how we want the sweep to work. Ideally we want it to go all the way around but if it's not possible, half way will work, we will just mirror it. Let me know if this is still confusing. Thanks for the input.

I want to say DUH - did you read my post??? Change you path to someting a whole lot smaller and keep the same location of your profile relative to where it is now!

Well, DUH doesn't give me a solution. We knew that the profile was intersecting as it turn. We were in search for a different solution rather than the commond ideas, which is why we post it here. If it can't be done, a simple no is sufficient.

Look... If you have a profile that is 10" long and you want it to turn along a path - and the path is set to the middle of the profile - no point along the path can have a radiuns less than 5" !!! Seems like a simple concept. How do you fix that? MOVE THE PATH ! If the path is at the inside end of the profile, it will always turn ... no matter how small the radius of the turn!

how about this?: Make the path in segments. it looks like the error occurs at the end of the elipse. so break the path at that point. create two sweeps and join geometry. If you look at Typhoon's images you see a joint. Maybe that's how he got it done also. john

No Jarosa, the images you see it's ONE piece but I pick in that and Edit the sweep, what you see is the "Profile" at the middle of the path, But Yes, create in Two parts and use "Join/Geometry"...

Thanks for the input. I will try to do it in two parts and see if it works. If not, I will figure something else out. Thanks again,
