Another question about Revit Building 9:

I am completely baffled by this. I have built several primitive wall types in my project, and several stacked types based on the primitives. So there are a bunch of valid wall types. The first indication that there was a problem was that I was unable to change a wall instance's type by highlighting it and selecting another type from the drop-down menu. The problem only occured with one type, which happened to be stacked, and happened to be the last one on the drop-down.

I was able to work around the problem by deleting the instance, and then redrawing it in the new type. Now I can't even do that! Every time I try to draw a wall of this particular type, the software trys to draw a curtain wall... at least that's what I think it's trying to do. I get a 'shorter than minimum height allowed by type' error message, and have to cancel the command.

This is going to sound pretty crazy, but it seems like the problem relates to the selected type's position on the drop-down. Types further up the list work fine. It's as though the machine can't read down to the bottom of the list. The proper type does stay selected on the type selector when the drop-down compresses, though.

There must be some other parameter the software looks at to establish the current type... as with 'object creation mode' in CAD. What am I missing?

I do not think this is a software issue but probably a user issue.  Screen shots of the properties of the wall type causing you problems would help in diagnosing your problem, but my first suggestion is for you to look at your options bar when you start your wall command.  You say this is a stacked wall.  What height are you trying to place with?  If it is less than what it takes to create your stacked wall, then you will have problems.

It takes awhile to understand how stacked walls work.

You are correct about the height. I figured that out last night and got the instance updated. If I set the height parameter to be greater than the minimum requirement for the stacked wall everything is fine.

If I reset the height parameter to be less than the minimum requirement, when I initiate the Wall command, Revit produces a ghost of the appropriate width for the stacked wall. When the command fails, though, the new wall instance reverts to Curtain Wall. Why is that? That's part of what was confusing me.

Here's the sequence: Define a stacked wall type with 12' height requirement. Select the stacked wall type, set height to 13', draw wall. No problem. So now the stacked type is the default in the selector. Initiate the Wall command again. Set height parameter to 5'. Pick start point. Wall ghost appears at thickness of stacked type. Pick end point. Command fails and height error message appears. Wall instance appears as a sheet of glass, which is not a component of the stacked wall type.

Why is the type reverting to Curtain Wall?
