When I create a wall opening in a wall using the opening-wall tool I can set it to the precise height I need, but if I go and change the wall height, the opening changes as well.  How do I de-couple the opening height from the wall height?

Thanks,

Brent

I tried creating dimensions and locking them but that did not work.  When you change the height of the wall by changing the elevation of the level above (the level the top of the wall is defined as) the drawing becomes overconstrained and asks that the command be canceled or the restriction removed.  Back to the original problem.

have you tried editing the profile of the wall? i just gave that a quick try and it seemed to work - I'm not totally sure of the differences between the methods but if it ticks all the boxes for you...

I personally hate the opening tool.  It just doesn't work right and is very hard to adjust afterwards.  I prefer either using the Cased opening in the door family and modified not to be cased or I use the wall sketch.... but the sketch can cause you other probelms.
