I have been a freelance millwork and cabinet detailer for the last 18 years.  My work ranges from stand-alone furniture to entire rooms of complicated and interrelated cabinetry on all four walls.  The architects with whom I work often use my shop drawings to fine tune their designs, a process which sometimes requires many revisions.  My last Autocad upgrade to 2007 included a copy of Revit Building 9.1.  I went through all of the Revit tutorials, came away with a great deal of enthusiasm for the program, and began to wonder if parametric modeling had a place in my future.  Due to an overwhelming workload and a residential move for the first time in 33 years, I have not had the time to revisit Revit or even begin to implement it in my business.  My reseller tells me that the opportunity to upgrade my copy of this rather old version of Revit will not last forever.  They are offering me an upgrade to the Revit Architecture Suite which costs less than an upgrade to only the Revit 9.1.  My question to all of you in the Revit community is this; do you think that Revit would be a useful program for me to consider assuming that a lone cabinet or a roomfull of millwork can be thought of as a single entity or building?  Thank you in advance for your welcome responses.  -  Cabinetmaker

if i were you, i would definitely use Revit, and market my families as an after product on sites like Turbosquid to generate additional revenue.

Check out the Woodwork Institute. They have all their details Series 100 to 700, all in Revit for convenient download.

You can download all the Series for free.

I started at a CADCAM enabled Joinery that used Pattern System International software called product planner.

I just spent the last year customising my own families, I actually created them from face based templates.

And then I discover the wood work institute who just so happen to have done the same thing  Oh well..

That is good to hear, and a motivational which gives me more thinking to get the Revit, which maybe directly have the Revit Architecture Suite perhaps rather than the old version. This looks good for use in my woodworking business which we focuses on doors. I understand Revit basic is good, but the feature is limited unless you get the premium one, and also this is one idea to have the full because like you said, time will come that this will not last but I guess they will explore new possibility for new innovation. Thanks to this.
