When trying to open the central file it generates an error " an unrecoverable error has occured"and closes so we can't generate new local files. When working in are current local file it will let us save to central without any problem. When trying to recreate a central file from the local file it generates an error when saving "file not saved" I've tried auditing the files and tried to roll back both the local and central files with no luck. Any ideas??? JB

Yes we have a few linked. I'll try to reload them and get back to you.

The problem I was having ended up being caused from the Antivirus software on our server. Once setting up AV software with some exceptions for .rvt and .dat file types we haven't had an issue. I'm not sure why this all of a sudden became a problem but at least we have a solution. JB

we are having trouble with revit 12 when we are trying to open a central file. The open dialog box that says "creat local file" is greyed out. Have we missed a setting in installing our new revit 12? any and all help will be appreciated.

It sounds like your "central" file doesn't have worksets/worksharing set up. Do you do this step already?

From what we can tell the project "central" file does have worksets/worksharing set up - but for some reason one of our team memebers only is having a problem. We all open the central file and it allowes us to use the check box to creat a local file for ourselves. When he opens from the same central file location - the check box is greyed out and does not allow him to make a local copy, but asked him to copy the central file instead.
let me know if you might know what the issue might be. We are trying not to have to reload revit on his machine - but we will if we can not get an answer. thanks in advance for your help

Assuming that your central file is on a server and all users have mapped network drives, make sure that all the drives were mapped the same way. If they weren't, Windows will still display the file path as 'X:\FilePath\', but Revit will still view them differently (i.e. 'X:\FilePath\' vs '\\192.168.1.1\FilePath\'), meaning it will think that it's not a central file.
Fortunately (pr unfortunately, depending on how you want to look at it), Revit is extremely sensitive to file paths. We've had the same problem in our office, some laptops were set up one way to work through a VPN, while desktops were set up differently because they were simply plugged directly into the network.
