Sorry if this is too general a question. Let me know if so, and will refrain. Am trying to come to grips with basic Family creation. So here is my exercise: Want to create a roof fascia Family. I select File/New/Family. Then open hosted profile template. Draw profile. Add dimensions from reference planes in template. Use Label button to make reference dimensions parameters. Save profile as .rfa file to root directory. Load .rfa file into a .rvt project. Okay... at this point my new profile appears in the .rvt's Project Browser as a profile Family. There is one Type in the new Family, with the same name as the Family. I renamed it in the Browser based on its dimensional characteristics. I can right-click on the Family, create new Types, edit their parameters in the Type Properties dialog, and give them names according to their dimensional characteristics. Problem is, when I go to use the Host Sweep/Roof Fascia tool, my new Family does not appear in the drop-down as a valid selection. I can create a fascia Instance, and assign a valid Type to it. I can edit one of the valid Types in the .rvt file and assign my new profile to it, but I cannot assign a Type from my new Family to a fascia Instance in my model. So something is clearly wrong with my geniology. The new Family and Type appear in the Browser, but it looks like they are only being recognized as profiles, not as a Family and Type. What am I missing? Thanks, and let me know if this is too basic for the forum. I don't have any other interactive source of information.

Thank you Typhoon, that is helpful - although you need to turn your recording volume up! I can barely hear you. Sorry I posted this in the wrong forum. Another question: How do I delete or edit a parameter in the .rfa file? For example, let's say I attach a parameter to a height dimension in the profile, but later decide I want to use the height parameter to mean something else. Can I purge the height parameter out of the file, so that it can be used again differently?

Figured out how to edit the parameter. :-)
