When should I use each type of parameter (number vs integer..etc?)

How do I write the formulas for each type of parameter?

 Thanks So Much!

Check out your help menu - it will answer these questions.

Thanks...but it has been no help.  Here is my current delima, but Im not sure if I am going about it correctly & I feel I would better understand if I understood all the parameters better:

I need to create some sort of parameter for my Material Takeoff Schedule - I want to be able to show how many studs I will be using.  My studs are all 16" OC, so I created a "Calculated Value" titled Stud Count.  It is an Integer type & The formula is "Length/16"Winking

It works perfectly - except that it does this for ALL materials, I want to limit it to just clculating the value for materials that have "stud" in the name.  I feel like I should do this with a yes/no parameter, but Im not sure & I cannot seem to get this to work.  Thanks!

First, HELP answers your first questions.  It explains interger, number and it tells you how to write formulas.

Second - Help will also help you with your new question.  Look in help for schedules and then look at filters.  This is just logic.  If you want to calculate only walls that have stud in their name, then you have to limit your schedule to those walls.

wwhub - The help files in Revit are terrible and convoluted.  The program does a lot more than what is explained in the help files.  For the most part the help files treat you like you are stupid and answer dumb or obvious questions.  What she is looking for is not in the help files.  Convoluted pieces of what she wants to do are.  A simple example would have been more helpful.

Jessica - What I think WWhub is alluding to, is that you can filter by that wall type, then it will only give you your count on that wall type.  I don't know if that will help - if you are also using the schedule for other wall types.

Thank you TC - that is EXACTLY how I feel about "help"

I was able to play around with the parameters a bit & filters.  Its OK for now, I just know its capable of so much more!
