Is it possible to add structural usage categories?

I'm not sure if its because we only have the out of the box options but it seems to be very limited.

At present there are only 5 options:- girder, joist, horizontal bracing, purlin, other and <automatic>

I want the ability to be able to change these default names to more suitable/ widely used UK terminology and to add more categories to allow me to apply specific line styles to them.

I'm pretty sure I understand the process of creating new material types to allow different colours to be displayed in the model i.e. I have created a new one for Metal-Cold Rolled Purlins, in order that I can use different colours to aid visualisation or identification of different elements easily when modelling. Is this the correct way to do it?

Also even though I have created new line styles I am unable to apply them to through the VG dialogue box I only get the listing of the default line types. Am I missing something?

Hi All,

Apologies I forgot to specify which version in my original thread. So I've added it to this reply.

I've managed to answer part of my own question in that I was looking for the linestyles to appear on the VG dialogue but it actually lists the line patterns not the linestyles so I've created specific patterns for teh corresponding custom linestyles. Hopefully this is the correct method.

I'd really appreciate some feedback or confirmation on the Structural useage issue.

I've had a look in my new bible 'Mastering Revit Structure 2009' that arrived yesterday but cant find anything on it and the table in the help pages is only confusing me more.
