I am trying to apply a certain brick pattern to a chimney to match the house. I went to edit the chimney family but it does not have the brick pattern. I have looked for the brick pattern to save to my computer but can not find it. How can I get a pattern that is in the project into the family I am editing so I can apply it to the family?

I am also trying to edit a garage door. The current door has two levels of glass panels. I only need one level of glass and the rest is opaque panels. When I copy an opaque panel to the area where the glass panel was it takes on the properties of the glass panels. How do I change those properties? I am still going through the help menu but no luck so far and I am in a time crunch.

Thanks for any help.

You don't need to do it in the family.  Try this ...

  1. Open the family and identify the material assigned to the chimney
  2. If it is default - change that to something like"chimney brick"
  3. Load the family
  4. In your project, find chimney brick and assign the same material as your house walls.

You need to spend some time learning how to build families.

  1. If the panels are all defined in one extrusion, then they will all be the same material.  In that case, edit theextrusion and remove the portion that you need to be different than add a new extrusion with it being a different material.
  2. If the panels are seperate extrusions - simple - just redefine one with a new material name and handle like you did with the brick.
