Hi,
I needed a counter top that's U shaped and with an offset at one end for a box window. I created it using the generic family model and added all the parameters so I could change the length of the sides/off set and off set position. I can't seem to figure out how to change the material to be counter top. I opened the counter top from the imperial library and saw that the material in the sub catorgy is counter top, and even tried to use it as a template to create mine, but no go. So the question is: How do I asign the material counter top to my model.

In the family.
Select the solid that you wish the material to be assigned to.
Go to its properties
In this window scroll down to the material.
Next to the material name on the right hand side then is a little square button. Click this.
You are then prompted to set the material parameter.
This will allow the material to be updated outside of the family.
HTH.
