We have our wall ratings set up in our file and we'd like to export what we see in Revit to CAD for our consultants; however, when we export to dwg, the drafting pattern for the wall rating is broken when it turns vertically.  Horizontally it reads fine, but every time it turns the hatch just disappears.

I've searched all over for people discussing this problem to no avail.  How do we resolve this issue?

Thank you in advance.

Okay, after many hours spent today trying to resolve this problem, I came to a solution.

I am curious.  What did you find out?

I have been debating myself the best way to do fireratings.  Here is what I have run into so far:

Methods tested:

                                Model lines

Issue:  Does not work properly with MEP revit

                                Drafting Lines

Issue:  Too much copying of same information

                                Patterns

Issue:  Difficult to read/ lost at thin walls/ curtain walls not reading

Cad export linework/linked into all disciplines

                                                Preferred solution

What all have you tried?

thanks!

This solution has been in use for a project within the last 3 years.  It's not a perfect system, but it works better than the others people have come up with.  We're pretty satisfied with the results.

Linked Model Approach

- Contains a series of wall types.  Each wall type has a specific cut pattern relating to a rated type.  Because revit does not like to rotate patterns 90 degrees, each rated wall type is split into a "vertical" or "horizontal" wall type that way the pattern shows up correctly in each rotation.

- Each wall is traced over the linked file, matching the centerline.  The walls are modified (object styles) to have a "white" bounding line so that the pattern appears to "float" in the middle.

- Each wall has "room bounding" turned off so it does not affect walls / doors / rooms etc.

- This file is then linked to the main models, can easily be turned off using worksets, cuts through doors (showing the pattern) without issue.  When you cut a section, make a new view, the pattern is visible.

- Some of the problems are that the pattern will sometimes not work when exported to CAD.  It could be that when I originally made the patterns, I did a poor job.  I might go back and revisit how I put the patterns together.

- When editing walls, you need to make sure that the rated wall file is coordinated.

Oh what a pain .... and waiting for problems.

We have trie many options - including hatches.  We use 2D linework in the code sheet views only.  Otherwise , the wall designation will also give the rating.

Awesome,  I actually had been wondering if a seperate linked model with walls might work.  I had noticed too that there is a difference in exporting to inches or feet (for architectural unit or engineer units) for that patterns.

Thanks much for your input!

Hub the issue we are running into is some cities it is required to show up on all disciplines on all plans.  Some jurisdictions strongly prefer it do be designated as linework.

It is a pain but we do what we can.
