Hello fellow newbies and esteemed experts alike - my goal is to be able to cut a section through any portion of a roof assembly with mtl deck and have it show correctly in section views.  "Embedding the detail" within a Roof Family in the Family editor makes logical sense to me - but I can't seem to make this work or to add any components in the roof section for that matter.  I know that details such as deck sections can be created in 2-D as an "overlay" atop a basic 3-D medel, but that seems like a work around and not in the spirit of parametric modeling/BIM. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi, see this two videos i made a few months ago to other question but i think you can use that to your problem in the sections of the roof, if you make the roof in 3D-MODEL i think you don't need to use the 2D components, at least you gonna use the minimum of that: 1º VIDEO: http://screencast.com/t/trJwHTYMmH

2º VIDEO:  http://screencast.com/t/QhyBfWqsO

tell if this solve your problem...

Typhoon - Brilliant.  Thank you.  This is exactly the type of detailing knowledge that I'm looking for.
