We have been working on a large school project for months - last week 3/4 of our rooms disappeared, after we had spent a nauseating amount of time filling in the finish details.  Does anyone know why this would have happened and how we can avoid it in the future?  We can't afford to be doing the same work twice with a deadline looming...

Are you sure they are gone?  Create a room schedule to check.  They may have been moved or are just turned off.

If they are truely gone then someone really messed up.  They don't disappear by accident - even if you delete the bounding walls or lines.  They have to actually be deleted.

If they are gone, find an older copy of the file on one of your machines and open it up, dsconnected from central, along with your project and copy-paste between them.

You do have other - older copies don't you?  - If not (you should, you can look into rolling your project back..... you have to look at what you will loose.

Thanks WWHub - I wanted to make sure this wasn't some sort of weird glitch or something, and it sounds like it's not.  The only thing I can think of is that maybe the rooms were removed from a schedule and the person working on it didn't realize that they were deleting them entirely.

This does lead me to another question though - when we were working in Revit Building 9.1 the backup files were saved automatically as .rvt files - now the Architecture 09 seems to be creating a folder backup with a bunch of strange files inside - how do you convert this back to a .rvt file (if it's possible at all)?

 Thanks again...

When you are working without worksets, you have rvt files as backups.  When using worksets, you ahve multiple users and the best way for REVIT to keep track of everything is by only backing up each user's changes.  These are the strange files you see.  To use thes, you have to "roll back" your file ....

I like to create new local files on my machine periodically so that I have snapshots of the file as it progresses.  My files don't take up any space on the servers so I don't get any grief from administration.  BUT I do have something to fall back on without having to roll back the project.  Works for me .... and I have had to use it many times.

Ah, I see.  I like the idea of creating new local files - perhaps that can be incorporated into our office standards.  Thanks!!

You need to advise the scheduler that they can use a filter ..... rather than deleting the rooms.

Good call - we're still wrapping our minds around Revit's scheduling capabilities.
