I JUST SEEM TO BE FULL OF QUESTIONS. SO HERE I GO. WHEN I ADJUST MY CROP REGION TO SHOW ONLY PART OF A FLOOR PLAN ROOM TAGS AND SOME DIMS STILL SHOW UP IN AREA OUTSIDE MY CROP REGION. I DO NOT WANT TO TURN THESE OF THRU VV BECAUSE I NEED SOME OF THE ROOM TAGS AND DIMS TO STAY. SO I SELECTED THEM, THEN HIDE THEM AND THEY WERE GONE, SO I THOUGHT. BUT ONCE MY SHEET WAS PRINTED ALL THE INFO OUT SIDE THE CROP REGION WAS BACK ON MY PRINTED SHEETS BUT ON SCREEN THEY WERE STILL HIDDEN. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Using the hide/isolate tool only hides/isolates temporarily and not for printing. If you don't want the room tags or dimensions, delete them. They are view specific anyway (ie they only show up in the view they are placed in)

HERE IS THE MY PROBLEM WITH THAT. THE REASON I AM DOING THIS IS TO MAKE DUPLICATE COPIES OF THE FIRST FLOOR. THE BY USING DESIGN OPTIONS I CAN CHANGE THE FRONT OR REAR OF THE HOUSE. THEN BY ADJUSTING MY CROP REGION I CAN MAKE CUT AWAY DRAWINGS OF WHAT CHANGES FOR BASEPLAN PRICING RATHER THAN MAKING WHOLE DRAWINGS OF HOMES WITH OPTIONS THAT MY NEVER BE CHOSEN YET I STILL HAVE TO SHOW. ONCE I DELETE THEM, SAY THAT OPTION WAS CHOSEN I WOULD JUST DELETE THE OTHER FLOOR PLAN SHEETS AND READJUST MY CROP REGION AND THAT PLAN WOULD BE FINISHED. BUT AS I TYPE HERE I REALIZE THAT I COULD JUST GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN DRAWING AND CHANGE THE DESIGN OPTIONS EASILY ON THAT TO THE NEW CONFIGURATION. THEN DELETE THE CUTAWAY SHHETS, AND JUST USE THE CUTAWAY DRAWINGS FOR WHAT THEY WERE ORIGINALLY FOR, JUST FOR LOOKS FOR BASEPLAN PRICING AND BROCHURE OPTIONS INFO. THAT HELPED A BUNCH. THANKS FOR YOUR EAR TO BOUNCE IDEAS OFF OF.

I'm in the begining stages of this same problem of creating and maintaining a 'prototype' with various options. The best idea I have come up with so far is to do all the sheet work (notes/dims) involved with the option while still in 'edit option' mode so that it remembers all the layout changes when changing options. However dimensions seem to not be cooperating they seem to always show up regardless of the current option and any duplicates between options act very irradically. Hopefully this gets you started. Also any tips you can relay back would be greatly appreciated.

Worksets will give you additional control over the visibility of objects. Even if you are not collaborating with others worksets can be pretty useful.

Something I thoungt you might find useful -- Below is a copy of a post I have up on zoogdesign.com and the reply. I'll keep eveyone here updated with anymore info I find. Team RPM: --Has anyone used design options to develope and maintain a prototype? We deal with multi-unit clients using prototype designs, however there are afew changes that are made often enough that it would be far more efficient to have them as design options. Examples are Flordia restrooms, and afew variations of the exterior finishes. The primary concern I have is how do I set up our prototpyes so that I can select and accept primary options and Revit will then coordinate the entire construction documents. I have found it handles the modeling part of design options very well but I have not found much help on how to get it to update all the notes, dims, and sheet layouts. Any pointers, tips, help, etc is greatly appreciated. Thanks-- Czoog: --Remember that design options can and should have documentation data (notes, dims tags, etc) in them. We do a lot of project that are multi-unit and single family housing with several options. We typically document every option fully in a master model file and just set the sheet views to display the proper option for this particular building. We are in the process of finishing up a bid set for prototype town home project. Because the contractor needed to price out every option, this particular bid set has to show all of the possible options fully documented. We have included all of the dozens of “options” in a master model file. And have different views that show all of the different options, so the set is rather large. 6.0 has really shined in the respect. Now, the beautiful part is we can just swap out different options (units) to make up a building, (remember the schedules can be controlled by options as well), do a save as, spit out the cd’s and bing bang boom, we’re done. The best part is our contract is such that we get paid to document each of the 15 buildings on the site, but the time involved with each is a fraction of what it would be using tradition documentation methods. Design options are bar-none that best development to hit revit in a very long time.--

befaore 6 we were really lost as fa as how to show our what be call base plan homes, 45 of them now and around 80 of them by July. I had looked at groups and worksets until 6 but now with design options the question has been answered. with each of these homes we have three different elevations, 3 to 4 foundation options, plus garage changes 2. 3 car front or side and finally grreat room or family room ext. off the rear. design options works great by duplicating sheets and since design options are view dependent you can use vv to show what option you need. i then adjust the crop region to show the changed area and put that on a brochure of the house and a sheet for base plan bidding. design options are the way to go for showing alternate project layouts.
