I have a structure with 12 foot ceilings and my cut plane is set to 7 feet. I have some entities placed at 10 feet so they do not show in my floor plan. When I raise the cut plane, the space between my doors and windows gets filled in instead of having a gap which is how doors and windows should appear graphically. What kind of setting do I need so my doors are indicated as well as the items at ten feet?

You can do a couple of things.

1. Use a plan region.... look in help to understand its use.

2. If you have families like a wall sconce that you want to see in plan but it's too high, you can edit the family and add an invisible vertical line to the sconce that goes low enough to be cut by your floor plan.  Anything in a family that is cut will result in the family being shown.

That worked perfectly, thank you for enlightening me to that function.
