ATTACHED FILE SHOWS A HIGHLIGHTED DIMENSION STRING AS INDICATED BY THE DIMENSION LOCKING SYMBOLS.

THERE ARE TWO VISIBLE LOCKING SYMBOLS WITHOUT A CORRESPONDING DIMENSION LINE SEGMENTS.

I EDITED THE DIMENSION STRING BY ADDING TWO DIMENSION LINE SEGMENTS BUT THE DIDN'T BECOME VISIBLE.

ALSO HAD AN ANOMOLY ON A DIFFERENT DIMENSION STRING THAT  I TRIED TO EDIT.                                       PICKED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE EXISTING DIMENSION AND INSTEAD OF ADDING THE ADJACENT DIMENSION IT STARTED PLACING A DIMENSION IN AN "EVERY OTHER" TYPE FASHION. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE HAVING DIMENSION STRING OF THREE DIM'S WITH THE MIDDLE ONE WAS MISSING.

ANY THOUGHTS?

I did not open your view but the typical culprit causing this is that you have dimensioned to something that is now turned off in the view.  When dimensioning, pay attention to what you are dimensioning to ... it is shown in the lower left corner.  You can tab through multiple objects that reside in the same place.

It is also helpful when dimensioning, to turn off everything you don't want to dimension to.

Sometimes it's attached to a line that isn't visible because it's hidden in the view like WWHub said but the strange thing is sometimes it's possible you select a line that isn't visible while adding a witness line.

I had the same problem last week, so my solution was to make a seperate dimension of the things where the dimension is invisible and align it with dimension you already have in stead of adding witness lines to the main dimension line.
