i would like to save some revit files and later import them into 3d max for rendering. the computer i would use for the max rendering would not have revit installed so what would be the best format to save it in . that is, can i open 3dmax and use import to bring in the revit file?

the only way to export to 3ds max/ viz is to install the revit viz 2005 link software that is on the revit 7.0 CD. Make sure you have a 3d view open of the file you want to export in revit then go export to dwg, dxf, dgn. Select the dwg and export it to and autocad file. Then in 3ds max/ viz use the file link manager to select the file and presto. If you are using revit 6.0 you do not have the ability to install the link software as it is not compatible. But you can just do the same process with the saving the 3d view to an autocad file and then linking it in to 3ds max. It is better to save out from a revit 7.0 file that have the viz2005 link software installed because it keeps all of the materials that you have assigned within revit, where as version 6.0 only saves out the 3d elements. hope this helps cheif.
