Need some help.  I've created a wall based family of a two member cornice that works pretty well except that I dont;t know how to make it miter and return at a 90degree angle to the house.  Also, I'm not able to run it around an outside corner.  Otherwise, I like it just fine.  Any ideas?

I've asked my contacts at my Autodesk reseller and the suggested having it nested in part of a wall assembly.  That won't work though, as I am creating this for exterior use and need to be able to adjust it to meet the fascia.  If the rafters need to rest on a 2' kneewall, building the cornice as suggested by the reseller won't work.  It needs to have the flexibility to move up and down.

Hopefully the attachment will show the family I created.

Thanks all!

Typhoon,

Thanks so much for posting the video.  I really can't thank you enough for taking the time to put that together.  Once I get my kids in bed, I'll spend some time with it and let you know how it works.

If I wanted to create some custom sweep profiles, what would you recommend to be the best method?

Don

I would make a profile family and then make a wall sweep. Wall sweep is hosted by the wall but not part of the wall. Let me know if you need more detail.

Hi, like Robin said, create your "profiles (2D)" in "Metric/Imperial Profile" and save them all in one folder "Profiles" "Metric/Imperial Library",in the Profile-family if you go to Settings-Family Category you can change the family category, take a look on this, then you have the two choises i post in video yesterday...

Typhoon & Robin,

Thanks a ton for your help.  After following your suggestions, I was able to easily create the cornice.  See attached.  It's a typical multi-member cornice used here in Richmond.  I also included a 1x8 fascia so that I could tie to the roof easily.

I hope you like it.

Thanks.

Typhoon,

Try this one.  I think you'll like it.  You can adjust it away from the wall and miter it at 90 dgrees to return it.  It's a nice, simple way to create a finished porch entablature (Tuscan Order for a 10" Column).

Enjoy.
