hi am using revit 2008,I have 2 years experience in revit but so far not worked with links in revit. We have different unit plans for a township project, we have to combine these unit and develop new blocks in a township. In auto cad we are using these units as xref and we will switch off the exterior wall layer and create new walls for every block. Concept is interior remain same but exterior will be different (for eg: some times same unit will have balcony in 3rd floor alone and same unit may have block work handrail for ground floor but in upper floors glass hand rails and height of individual blocks vary from G+3 to G+6 note: all the floor will have same units in a block but each block may have different units, I hope I am not confusing all!) Now we are planning to convert to revit, so can any one explain how to start with it.Note: There has to be link between unit plans to the project for better coordination My doubt is, if I create a unit plan as separate revit files how do I specify heights/ alter heights when it comes to blocks?Or ………………………what shall I do??? wonderingAny suggestions are highly appreciated

Not sure I understand your question but there are two tools in REVIT that you should research to see if they will meet your needs. The first is groups. They are similar to blocks except you can turn items on/off within the goup. We use thse for hotel rooms where the furnishings are all the same but the location in plan and exterior walls may be different. The second tool is design options. With design options, you can have common elements used in multiple options all located in the sme space.

hi wwhub, Thanks for ur inputs, now i am trying to have exterior wall alone in one file and interior space in another file. Interior file will have link to exterior wall file. Now i have to develop blocks out of these files, where i will link interior file as attachment and exterior file as overlay and then create my exterior walls for the block in block file. so my block can be any number of floors and my exteriors will also differ. Yet to start implementing this concept in block files..........see u soonThank you

What you are doing really sounds complex. It also sounds like you are still thinking in terms and methods that are AutoCAD's. I urge you to work at understanding how REVIT works and try to think in that framework. If you don't, REVIT will be a real struggle for you but if you can make the transition, you will discover that REVIT is a powerful tool. Not perfect, but W O W ! Good luck
