When I adjust the view range in a plan view the section cuts disappear. what am I doing wrong

What do you mean by "section cuts?" Do you mean the section symbol in the plan?

Sections have a vertical range as well as a lateral range. Go to a perpendicular view and adjust the top/bottom of the vertical range to within your new view range and the symbols will show on the adjusted plans.
