My firm has teamed with another Architect using Bentley. The other firm will be provideing us with a BIM model after schematic design. I am wondering how useable the model will be in Revit 2009.

I am assuming that I will need to use the IFC import tool but I have no experience wiht this yet. Any ideas, thoughts, or things to watch out for would be appreciated.

I am new to revit city, but have confidently used Revit Architecture in the past. I'm having alot of trouble geting a 3d model from Bentley Architecture into Revit Architecture.

Currently I can only import as a dwg, and it's like a reference file (uneditable?!) Even trying to copy this out, or query things, or fully explode, I'm not getting anywhere, and it seems to completely disappear with the fully explode button. I have also tried importing it into a family, as somebody recommended, and I have also tried exporting an IFC file from Bentley, and importing IFC to Revit, with no luck. It simply says there were 10 errors in the file, and the errors are that there is no model!! (but I can open the IFC file in Bentley, with no problems).

There seems to be a lot of help for revit to bentley, but not the other way around?

Has anybody found a plug in that can open a 3d .dgn or .dwg file, and edit it in Revit? I'm not looking to do a great deal, except apply materials and test renders/move things around.

We have successfully used IFC's but only as linked files.  I believe your problem will be "edit".  Material colors  - yes - you should be able to do that but - "move things around" - no, I think that will be a problem.  << But not sure of that.

Thanks for your input, yes perhaps I'm wishing for too, wanting to 'edit' these imported models. I will play around with a few more file types...and await some more comments!!
