Hello all,

I have created several design options for different building massings.  Everthing is going great until I try to do area plans.  As I have now found out, areas and area boundaries cannot be placed into design options.  Can anyone provide a solution to how to show areas of different options?  I am considering worksets, but would like some opinions.  I am using revit 2009.

thanks.

The information REVIT gives you under areas and design options is a little confusing.  To do what you want:

  • First, create your base scheme and area plan with areas.
  • Then while in the design option showing your other scheme, go to settings and create a new area scheme for this option.
  • Now create a new area plan using this new scheme.  Do not do an automatic boundary.
  • Now exit your design option and then create your boundary by pointing or drawing your lines and then add your area.
Do this as many times as you need to.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I am getting the "Areas and Area Boundaries are not allowed in Design Options. Make an Area Scheme and an Area Plan for this Option then draw all Areas and Area Boundaries in that view." Error, even though I *think* I followed the above directions.

This is how you can create different color scheme and area plans for each design option in Revit 2014 (possibly same in other versions as well).

1. Create your plan options ( Option1 , Option 2 etc..)

2. Architecture Tab → Room & Area → Area and Volume Computations → Area Schemes → Create New Area Schemes for each option → OK

3. Architecture Tab → Area → Area Plan → Pick desired area plan options from type per floor → OK

4. While on area plan; Click VG (visibility graphics) → Design Options → Change automatic view to desired design option → OK

5. Draw the Area Boundries and locate Areas or Area Tags on that plan.

6. Proporties Tab → Color Scheme → Pick the color scheme that you want

I was confused between color scheme and area scheme after I read previous posts. So, I wanted provide some description.

Hope this helps,

This works up until the point where you need to create the color scheme because for some reason this is not possible! Please Help!
