Dear family gurus, I realise this could be a dumb question I'm only learning & I got no response from anyone in AUGI - but here goes anyway: Can I make a door tag that is linked to a floor plan so that when I insert a door the tag would give me the door number as per usual as well as the floor plan that I'm inserting it? Thanks. nextvkin

I don't believe so. Why would you need it report what floor plan its in? Door tag content is not view specific it is simply a visual report that extracts the properties of the door. Only option would be to create a new door tag with a shared parameter for the floor plan number/name. Then create a new type for each floor plan view and apply the appropriate door tags for that view. Seems like a lot of overhead for what seems a strange request though?

Thanks for the reply, Mr Spot. I'm not sure if I understand you correctly, but we use our door number/floor level sybol to identify the type of different doors in our door schedule & door hardware schedule. As i've said I'm only just learning about Revit & there may be other ways of doing the above mentioned schedules and I'm willing to find out more, but at the moment we do our schedules manually and nothing is linked. If I did the tags as you suggested, can they be linked to schedules? Hope my explanation & questions make sense to you.

Okay so you want them to be linked to the floor level and not the actual view/plan? This is possible. We do this typical for unit developments and have found the best method to just incorporate the level into the tag. For instance 201 D3, would equate to unit 201 door 3 (obviously). We can then filter shedules to show doors belonging to only a certain level. The actual tag is set to crop the text into a circle with a horizontal line at the centremark so we end up with the unit number up the top and the door number below centred in each portion of the semi-circle. The other option is as i suggested early to incorporate a shared parameter into the tag, which can be scheduled. Personally i'd recommend just numbering the doors so they incorporate the level. Less overhead and will behave more revit like (automatic). BTW, you are really missing out by manually doing schedules, this is one of Revits strong points. HTH.

Right, Mr Spot, I'll take your advice & use the first option; however that's easier said than done because I don't think I fully understand the procedure - remember I'm a novice at creating families. Would it be too much to ask you to upload an example for me to analyse, like you did with your louvres? Thanks. nextvkin
