Hi -

I need to duplicate a portion of my floor plan to crop and place on an titleblock to issue a sketch. Being a very large ground floor, there are dependent views within it. As it being issued for a sketch, I do not want this view to continue updating; and I would like to create a separate folder to keep the "SK" plans separate from the other drawings. When I attempt to duplicate the main view or make a partial plan independent, I keep getting the following error message:

"Cannot paste view references into the view they reference or into unrelated views."

Any suggestions? How to work around this?

thanks!

I would try creating another floor plan. Not duplicate the floor plan. Create a new one. Go to "view" , "Floor plan", when the "New Plan" dialog box is open you might have to un-check the "Do not duplicate existing views" box. Now you can create a new Plan View..

In addition, any 2d annotation items are easily copied from the old view to the new one.  Just window the whole sheet, use your filter to remove all model elements from your selection set, select copy to clipboard, open your new view and paste aligned current view.

Using the paste aligned tool does make it easier to keep all the right notes and dimensions, thanks for the suggestion!
