The attached Gable Louver 1 shows the section image in the family editor. The attached Gable Louver 2 shows how it appears in section when inserted into the project. Any ideas on why the louvers mover forward (or the frame moves back) when inserted? RAC-2009

...............I had installed it in a smaller width wall than the family generic wall. Why does it break apart the louver when the project wall is different than the family wall?

The family was just built wrong to begin with. I like to build families like this outside the wall limits tied to a reference plane so that they don't assume constraints that are related to the wall.

....................are you saying you place the gable at a reference plane rather than in a wall? Do you do a cutout in the reference plane that creates the cutout in the project wall when the louver family is placed?

I currently use a louver that hosts to a wall face. It works great for me. I believe it is a standard revit component with a few parameters added on for scheduling purposes. You might want a reference plane in the center of the louver and use a chain dimension with the eq symbol checked? That is how my louver is configured. See attached file for more info.

Hogmodo - For wall hosted families, I build around a reference plane(s) located in plan a couple of feet away from the wall. I test the family then when everything works correctly with all parameters, I set the location of the reference plane where I really want it in relation to the wall faces. That dimension might be an offset dimension from the wall face that is an instance or type parameter. Much easier to build the family an I know I have it controlled how I want it.
