Can anyone please make a vertical version of this hatch pattern, please? I had to give up after several hours, must admit I'm not the hatchpattern master I hoped to be...

You can rotate the hatch "fill pattern" after it has been placed. Even a stone or complex hatch. Just select an element in the hatch and then click on Rotate. Type in 90 don't try and eyeball it..

hey Rob

Thanks for a quick reply!!!

I tried your solution, but the hatch didn't rotate. I'm using Revit architecture 2009, so sorry if I ask foolishly: but is it an AutoCAD workaround?

You are using a 2d hatch.  Make it a 3d hatch and it will work.

You can make any hatch a model hatch by editing it in a text editor:

Add the line:

;%TYPE=MODEL

just after the name.

Quite true..By 3D we mean "Model" Type pattern. All patterns that represent something real, Brick, Stone, Shingles, Tile should be Model patterns. All drafting symbols like Steel, Gyp., Sand, Conc, should be "Drafting" Patterns.
