This is probably a dumb question, but why is it that when I try to edit some family files, the changes don't show up in the building model, but do on the family file. I have tried saving the family file, duplicating it first...

I am specifically thinking of a base cabinet where i tried to edit the main extrusion which included the doors. I tried to change the material from walnut to pine, and insert a recess via a void extrusion. both of these changes showed up in the family file, but made no difference when I loaded them into the project.

I am using Revit 9

I'm not sure whether or not this would work, but if its anything like autocad, you may have to purge the old family file and re-import the new one

First - obvious question - did you reload the file?

- Changing materials in the family doesn't matter once the material is defined in the project.  You have to change the material in the project.

- Look in your browser to see if you have "Family-name" and "Family-name1" etc.  If you have set parameters that are different in name (not value) from what has already been used, REVIT will not swap them and will create the new numbered name.  You need to swap them.  You can always name the old family in the project to "family-name-old"  load the new one and then swap them.

Firstly, yes I did reload the file. If I delete the extrusion in question, then it will appear that way in the building model (I tried this as a test) but not if I change the material or character of the extrusion. The material is listed as "default". I have created a new material called "pine" and used the accurender to select a polished pine surface, but it still appears as a dark brown wood.

It also only seems to happen to the front of the doors, even though it is part of the same extrusion.

Please reread my post - the material in the family has to be a unique name that is then assigned in the project.
