Revit 2009

if you look at the picture you see a window that I have edited to make a new family (which i also include) the glass as you can see is not set up right, it makes a small division in the middle of the pane.

I created this family out of a 3 x 3 window, to get a 2 x 3 window...but i have to delete some equal constrainst I didnt know how to correct for...it does look like i fixed the glass extrusion but i dont know...

anyway, can somone take a look at the window family and tell me what I have to do to fix the glazing line.

please, thanks.

 Michael

You didnt lock the extrusions to the panels.

here is the fixed version of the family.

thanks for the corrected one.

but can you explain a little more. did you mean that the glass extrusion and the frame extrusion need to be locked? is that all?

Yes, thats correct, and you need to do this in plan view.  You should also use ref. planes in this case and lock all of the items to the multiple ref. planes.

Let me know if you need me to be more specific.

Well, you dont have to reply, unless you want to help me not be such a noob!

 but my questions are this

is the plan view necessary for the constrainst of the mullion and the glass? is that what you mean?

when you see a reference plane shown as a dotted line...your seeing the edge of the plan right? the reference plane thing is a little confusing. so far the tutorials have left it out a little (or ive missed it)

lastly, when you look in the plan view at your model. at the right side or the sash you see a thick section instead of glass or something...what is that? why is it there?

either way, I want to start making a real project tso I can get through all the steps and make it work for me..:-)

THANKS A LOT FOR ANY REPLY, i know they are basic questions...

Michael

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

First, the plan view is necessary to make these constraints because it is the only view that you can properly see these items in order to lock them.

Second, you are right, the dotted line is the edge of the plane, and this is what you are locking the objects to (instead of locking the objects to each other)

Third, that block that you see in plan view is the extrusion of the glass, you need to adjust its size in 'family types' so it wont look and be so big.
