Is it possible to create a visibility filter that uses phasing to filter elements (if element is in existing phase, override its patterns to gray)? For example, on my RCP, I need to show my existing ceiling grid grayed out, but I still need to show any new ceilings in bold. I realize that the phase filter and its overrides were designed for this, but unfortunately it only applies to the perimeter line of the ceilings - not the pattern (the 2x2 grid). Please help if you have a suggestion on how I can gray out my existing ceiling grid, while keeping my new ceilings bold! Revit Arch. 2008

If your existing is in the same file as your new construction, then you have fewer options, I'd of thought that the phase filter would have grayed it out, but if that doesn't work, then you can just as easily create a different "type" of ceiling, and then change how this ceiling is displayed in coarse view... and if that still isn't enough, at least having an existing type of ceiling would allow you to select all instances in that view, and then override graphics in view by element (select all, then right click choose override graphics->by element) click on halftone, or soften the color by choosing a light gray or something... hope this helps

Just add a transparent hatch with the old ceiling pattern over the new ceiling in your RCP, then right click, select this hatch and over ride graphics in view making it half-tone. If you want your quantities to show, keep your existing ceiling and just turn it off in view.
