I have a CAD site plan linked into my project.  I am trying to dimension from a tree on the CAD site plan to a corner of my Revit building.  I've tried two methods: draw drafting line circle at the center of the CAD tree and place a revit tree on the site.  Everything is pinned--drafted circles, CAD plan, 3D tree, topography.  However, both the drafted circle and the 3D tree move in relation to the CAD siteplan as you zoom in and out.  And depending on what scale you print the drawing at, the drafted circles/3D trees print in various locations, but NOT in the center of the CAD background tree.

Any ideas of what's going on and how to fix it?

 Thank you.

3D trees are usually represented by a 2d element so that they can be placed in plan.  You can always modify that family to include invisible lines to describe their center.  Part of your problem may be that your 3d tree, may not exist in the center of your 2d description depending on who built the family.  Also, remember that if you do not have a flat site, trees placed in plan but looked at in 3d may not correctly because of elevation issues.

Otherwise, we do not have the issues you are experiencing so I am relatively sure it is a procedure/family issue, not Revit.

Even when I am using only 2D drafted circles to represent the tree in plan, the drafted circle and the CAD site plan underlay do not remain in alignment when you zoom in or out, pan, or print.  Not only that, but the relationship of 2D Revit circle to CAD site plan underlay does not look the same on the screen as when you print.  The discrepancy is up to 18".  I have placed a dimension from the 2D circle to a 3D building element and that dimension does not change.  This leads me to believe that it is the site plan that is shifting, and not the 2D drafted circle.

I have attached two images illustrating the problem.  All I did in between screen shots was zoom in.  (Purple is the cad plan, black circles are 2D drafted in Revit.

This is definitely not a family issue.  Possibly a procedural issue?  But I do not know what the issue might be.

 Thank you for your suggestions.

Extend your dimension to the corner of the building and you will confirm the the 2d elements do not move.

Are you telling us the whole story?  This is a CAD (AutoCAD) dwg that is either linked in or inserted and it is not an image file in either the cad dwg or in REVIT?

Correct, it is not the 2d drafted element that is moving, but it is the CAD underlay site plan that is moving.

I don't think anything is an "image".  This is how I got the CAD site plan into Revit:

File-Import/Link-Cad Formats

Selected the plan.

Current View only.  Link.  Invert Colors.  Layers Visible.  Import Units Auto-Detect.  Positioning Auto Center to Center (because it wouldn't let me do it origin to origin). Place at First Floor.  Orient to View.

Maybe it's the orient to view that's the problem???

The tree symbol in CAD is a block.  When I open the block to edit it, it is made out of arcs, so I don't think that it is an "image" either.
