we are recent new users and want to insert degrees and diameter symbols in text. is there a revit way, rather than the alt plus number method?

Nope... Only the character map shorcuts ATM. Which in my preference is just as easy. Most monitors in our office have a post it stuck to them with a list of the most common used symbols.

latemore back. thanks mr spot. i checked it, and works fine on a normal keyboard, but not my laptop. as others may be asking for the codes, i am attaching some shortcuts.

Great info, and thanks for the shortcuts. Is there anyway to use codes on a laptop?

The codes need to be typed in on a laptop using the 'numbers' keys not the ones above the qwerty letter keys.  Some laptops have the numbers keys that can be activated with a special Fn key.  Check your laptops documentation to see if you have such a feature.  You can also add a USB num pad which should work.

Another option is to insert the characters by using a copy paste method from MS Word or by using the Windows charmap utility [Windows>Start>Run>charmap]
