So I am thinking of a clever way to attach the two suspension rods in a floor based pendant light to my roof since my second floor has an open ceiling. I tried adding some individual length parameters but it is too tedious to adjust them all. I was thinking I would like the suspension rods to act like a column does for attachment.

Best idea I have is to recreate the family in a face based template and figure out how to keep my light level to the floor and have the suspension rods attach to the sloped roof.

any bright ideas?

My problem is getting my 2 rods to host at variable lengths without manually inputting the length.

the lights are 10' long, some run parellel with the roof slope, some run perpindicular.

I can achieve the light being hosted to the roof but i am unable to keep the light fixture itself parallel to the floor on the lights that run parallel to the slope.

I tried messing with some angle and slope parameters but it just isn't going well.

Did you check your always vertical box in your family?

I was missing that. I almost have it. i can keep the light parallel, i can get it to adjust height from the floor.

this is pretty tricky. i need the suspension rods to attach to 2 different reference planes that I can adjust the distance between by inputting an angle. any thoughts on that one?

There were discussions yesterday or the day before about making parametric counters that you could use your alignment tool to adjust their length.  You could do the same think here.  Same idea but vertical instead of horizontal.  Set a reference plane in the family that will be your inserted floor height.  When you insert the family, you can adjust the location height by finding this reference plan and stretching it to the floor.

i added a parameter that calculates the length of the taller of the two suspension rods by inputing the roof slope.

Rod Length = Rod Spacing * tan(Roof Slope)

Made them all instance parameters and now it is fully adjustable by control points.

WOOHOO TRIG FUNCTIONS!
