does anybody know how to rotate the model text so that you can see it in sectional, elvational and rendered/flyround views?

Not sure exactly what you mean but if you mean place it on vertical face as opposed to horizontal one you need to set your work plane as a wall face or reference plane depending on where you want it...

thanks it wasn't quite as easy as you suggested but you did point me in the right direction and i got there in the end
