In attempting to add an adjustable door swing to the symbolic lines in the single flush door provided by Revit, I am struggling to learn the technique to properly layout reference planes and lock linework to them so they flex properly. I get "cannot resolve constraints" error messages and cannot determine what is wrong. Are there any cd's or videos that can be replayed to learn how to do this? Are there other methods for learning this? I have Mastering Revit but don't find it helpful on this issue, and the user manual and brief instructions in the program's help section are very abbreviated and unhelpful.

One thing you need to learn is to put your reference planes / lines in first. Adding them later then locking to them is a lot harder to do. You also need to pay close attention to what you are really locking/aligning to. That is not always apparent. Remember - there can be more than one item represented by the apparent single line that you see. You can see what you are aligning with by looking at in the lower left corner and then tabbing through your selections.

Thanks. If I am trying to create an adjustable door swing parameter to the Revit single flush door provided in the program, I assume I have to create four reference planes (one for each side of the two dimensional door) and one at the wall plane, then create a dimension parameter (call it door swing) between the wall reference plane and the door plane at the hinge point. What connects the other reference planes to the hinge point plane? Is it the other dimension parameters or are these other planes locked in some way to the plane passing through the hinge point. I am not sure I understand how to structure and connect the planes. I do understand that after setting up the planes with the correct dimension points, the model or symbolic lines are locked to the appropriate plane for that line and that the program will sometimes attach the model line to the wrong plane.

Doesn't take that much. Check out the attached adjustable swing door family.
