I've heard some discussion on how fast can the data be accessed, especially over networks. My concern now while looking at up grading my firms current PCs are harddrive speeds. Does anyone have an opinion on either one of these and their effects on their system and running Revit? SATA 3.0Gb/s, 7200RPM w/ 8MB DataBurst Cache VS. SATA 3.0Gb/s, 15kRPM w/ 16MB DataBurst Cach

Mhans the review you put up is specifically for terrabyte drives and does not relate to what Architmatt has asked for. The main difference is in the 8mb and 16mb cache. This 16mb is obviously faster since it has a higher redundecy ratio that and handle more data at one time and with a spin speed of 15k rpm which is twice as fast as the 7200 it should be quite clear as to which one to go for. The only issue you will have is the motherboard. Will the motherboard be able to support the 16mb harddrive which you should be able to find from checking out the make and the info they have provided.

The other thing is it worth the money for the faster drive. One other thing I forgot to mention is that all of our files are really storage on a local server. Although you still need a decent drive on the individual PCs to run everything. Im not looking for the ultimate system, but something affordable and is going to get the job done for the next 4 years.

The 15k drives would feel faster for sure. the 16mb cache I don't think would help too much, the rpm is going to matter the most. revit files are big sometimes, but the additional cache would probably go unnoticed. In my home computer, the one im allowed to play with :-) , I run two 7.2 k sata 3.0 drives as a raid 0. its really nice. I also partitioned my drives so the operating system, page file, and working files are in the fastest part of the drive (which surprisingly helps alot)
